People keep asking themselves why they can’t come with a plane with automotive reliability, technology, and economy. Well the Twin Star is leading the way. Engines are 1.7 liter TDI (turbo diesel, fuel injected) made by Mercedes Benz and similar to auto engines in Mercedes, VW, and Audis. Normal auto ignition systems except these have backup systems the autos do not have. Running of FADECs just like the autos which control the fuel mixture, prop RPM, and power settings with no reduced max continuous power limitations. The easiest twin you can imagine flying. One power lever controls everything. After takeoff, the only thing you need to do is retract the gear. No power change is required unless you prefer to. With the liquid cooling, rapid letdowns at reduced power settings are not that big of a concern. Gear down speed is 156 kts. Once it's down, you can accelerate to 194 kts if you're in a hurry. The landing gear is trailing link and built like a tank. |
